We took our CHL class!

E-mail Print PDF

Ok! we are back! both passed. Both only missed 1 question on the written test due to stupid mistakes. 50 questions total.

Shooting we both passed as well and she did better than any other woman in the class and better than some of the guys..

I got 2nd. First had to go to a peace officer in the class.. He has had quite a bit of time firing. hahha

Ok.. yes 10 hours but here is how it was.

From 9am - noon it was guided paperwork.

12:30pm -5pm discussion (he had the test in his hands and basically explained each question, scenario and laws pertaining to it.) and test and grading. Then review of the ones people missed.

5:30pm-6:15pm Shooting test at a different location so we had time to drive there.

20 rounds at 9ft. This is done in groups of 5 rounds in 10 seconds, then 5 rounds with the first two being a double tap followed by 3 rounds. Repeat.

Target is moved back to the 21ft mark and repeat the above.

Move target to 45ft mark. Now you do 5 rounds in 15 seconds. Repeat.

Done.

At this point, your paperwork is filled out, your packet is only needing stamps and you are good to go.. Now we wait for about 5-6 months.

Our instructor has a sense of humor. Showed no slides and basically taught by discussion and example. I got to attempt to rob him at gunpoint.

When I have to renew in 4 years, I will definately use this guy. He was easy to talk to and knew his stuff. Did not think twice about helping those who needed it in either the lecture or shooting portion. Also had great stories to tell since he was a marine.

The renewal class is only 4 hours. Its the test portion and the shooting portion as you would not have to go through the paperwork again.

We used Texas Firearms Training. This guy knows his stuff and presents it in a manner that will keep the day from dragging on. Very laid back but at the end of the class you do feel like you have had your questions answered, learned something and good about your decision to be a responsible citizen and gun owner. Give Lonnie a call when you need your Texas CHL or renewal!

(Pics of our targets will be up tomorrow!)
